Pick up a birding checklist at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and join a naturalist for a guided excursion. Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel Island is an extraordinary place to spot seasonal songbirds such as Swainson’s Thrush and Acadian Flycatcher,  year-round birds such as the Snowy Plover and dramatic raptors like the Peregrine Falcon flying overhead.

Sea Turtle Season!

This region of Florida is home to several species of sea turtles, most commonly Loggerhead, Green Turtle and Leatherback. Beginning in May, females will clamber ashore at night to lay their eggs on the sandy beaches — often returning to the same spots year after year. Months later, tiny hatchling scamper from the beach and into the sea. Look to Turtle Time on Fort Myers Beach, SCCF on Sanibel Island, and the nationwide Sea Turtle Conservancy to learn more about conservation efforts in Florida and beyond.
